I frequently visit Best Buy lately. Christmas is just around the corner and it makes me excited to start my Christmas shopping. And I guess it’s about the right to start doing so especially since I am ordering abroad and having the items shipped here will take several weeks. I can only wish for more budget to get everything that I want and probably fill up a whole balikbayan box. Nothing beats the excitement of a big box full of goodies arriving at your doorsteps.

Wood Blinds.

Posted by: alpha on Thursday, September 2nd, 2010

I came across faux wood blinds recently. They don’t look bad and so now I am considering having my curtains replaced. I have been told over and over again that curtains aren’t advisable for the asthmatic so I guess I should really consider replacing our curtains. I love the wood blinds I saw online, maybe I should order some just in time for Christmas. I can’t wait for our internet connection to be up and running so I can proceed with my online shopping.

Reduce Your Stress.

Posted by: alpha on Thursday, September 2nd, 2010

Here are some ways to do so snagged from http://www.mysimplerlife.com/blog.

1. Have a daily centering time of prayer, inspirational reading, mediation or yoga.
2. Take a 10 minute walk at lunch time outside. Let some of that stress go physically as you walk.
3. Connect with at least one person daily. We all need an emotional support system.
4. Use a relaxation tool in the evening or during breaks.
5. Laugh. Go ahead and watch that silly movie. Take in a comedy. Laugh with your kids. Watch silly cats on YouTube.
6. Question your stressful thoughts.
7. Slow down. Pause. Breathe.
8. Listen to music.
9. See what you can enjoy in the current moment.
10. Simplify. Declutter. Let go of time commitments. Wear a capsule wardrobe.

Looking For A Job.

Posted by: alpha on Thursday, September 2nd, 2010

I am amazed at how easy job searching could be nowadays. I remember cutting newspaper clippings, going through the yellow pages browsing for companies and sending my resume through mail when I was looking for my first job. Now, anybody can search for a job without leaving home. Searching for IT jobs, travel jobs and even chef work can be done online. And you can likewise search by companies as well and even track how your application is doing. Just one of the many reasons to love the internet.

Montessori Experience.

Posted by: alpha on Monday, August 30th, 2010

I finally got to have a glimpse of some of the activities in my son’s class. Parents were given the chance to observe their kids during class. Each parent {or in our case, parents as both DH and I came to observe} were given 20 minutes to observe. No talking to the kids, phones off or in silent mode and in bold uppercase letters - NO CAMERA OR ANY SORT OF DIGITAL PHONE, VIDEO, to make the visit unobtrusive. I know, I was disappointed, too. I would love to snap even just a few pictures of my son in school.

Anyway, it was a great experience for us. This class was so much different from my son’s previous school. The class was quiet, making not so much noise, while each kid did their own work and three teachers were walking around, assisting and supervising the kids. The teachers talked to the kids in a very gentle voice and you wouldn’t also hear kids raising their voices. If a kid needed the help of the teacher, he would just quietly walk toward the teacher to ask, instead of calling out for the teacher. If their task was done, nobody would yell “I’m finished”. It was so peaceful. And while all these were happening, a classical music was being played in the background.

In a normal setting, at least from what I’ve seen, children were normally chatty and playful and would move around so actively, but not them. Even I was surprised. My kid who would be so active was not so during our visit. {Of course, he still has his very active moments, but I was just pleased that he wasn’t so during our visit, though he would come to use once in a while for a hug.} And even though he sometimes complains, he did so in a very calm voice. Oh yes, he told “I don’t like…” to his teacher at least twice. But of course, the teacher still made him do it.

Each kid had his materials that he manipulates and works with. My son, for example, had this big box of cursive letters cut outs and a set of photos. The photos were placed on a mat and he then spelled the word using the cut out letters. He also had a set of photos that he matched with their names. Then he had this big box of small cylinders, each pair producing a similar sound when shook. He had to match each cylinder with the other cylinder with a matching sound. I also saw a kid with set of photos and she was matching them with their names, one in English and the other in Tagalog. And after matching them, she got her notebook and wrote the labels in cursive. And she did write so well in cursive, to think she is just in preschool. Really amazing. I can only wish that I had my son start his schooling here.

The class has mixed age groups, by the way, from 2 1/2 to 6 years old. From what I’ve read from the article featuring them on the Inquirer which was displayed on the bulletin board, it is mixed just like the real world where you would interact with different people. Older kids get to lead while little kids get to follow them and consider them as their role model.

Marathon.

Posted by: alpha on Sunday, August 29th, 2010

I was having a series marathon of Gossip Girl when I actually heard investing in gold coin mentioned in the show. I was a bit surprised. So this type of investment is indeed getting more popular. I have been reading about precious metals investment for quite a while now and the show got me more interested on it. United States Gold Bureau is a good place to visit if you want to know more about gold, silver and precious metals investment. They have a staff of hard asset professionals that are ready to help you with whatever precious metals investment needs that you may have. You can likewise buy gold bullion and other precious metals from them at competitive prices. No wonder they are considered America’s best dealer.

“When you wake up in the morning, Pooh,” said Piglet at last, “what’s the first thing you say to yourself?”

“What’s for breakfast?” said Pooh. “What do you say, Piglet?”

“I say, I wonder what’s going to happen exciting today?” said Piglet.

Pooh nodded thoughtfully.

“It’s the same thing,” he said.

Nothing Major.

Posted by: alpha on Tuesday, August 24th, 2010

Nothing major has been happening thus the lack of updates. {Oh yes, thanks to our very own Miss Universe 4th Runner Up, Venus Raj, I am loving the word major lately. Kidding aside though, no matter what they say, I am still proud of her.}

Anyway this blog, along with my other blogs, has been lacking updates. No tasks, not much to blog and me being preoccupied with other things besides blogging. I am in a major downloading {there goes that word again} mode right now. I have been downloading Richard Scarry videos {my son’s fave} from Youtube, and I have been on a hunt for Lightroom presets as I am experimenting on it. I have been browsing schools here also as my brother is planning to take online courses. So my series marathon has to wait for a a while for now.

For Christmas.

Posted by: alpha on Monday, August 16th, 2010

A few months ago, when asked what he wants for Christmas, DS would say he wants to receive 100 gifts. Lately though, his Christmas wish changed. No longer he wants 100 gifts, instead he wants his own computer, more specifically the small laptop with a Mickey Mouse print. I must say that it is a quite big item for a gift, to think he is just a preschooler. Of course, I won’t be getting him his own PC anytime soon. For myself though, a powerful desktop computer will make a great gift. I know DH would gladly agree with me getting one. But the problem is the budget. It’s not a necessity so it isn’t a priority. But still that won’t stop me from checking out various desktop computer reviews.

Chasing Clouds.

Posted by: alpha on Monday, August 16th, 2010

“We are all unkind from time to time. We all do things we desperately wish we could undo. Those regrets just become part of who we are, along with everything else. To spend time trying to change that, well, it’s like chasing clouds.”

~ Libba Bray, A Great and Terrible Beauty
